Soups Market Size in Croatia

In 2021, the Croatian soups market increased by 29% to $X, rising for the fourth year in a row after four years of decline. In general, the total consumption indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Kosovo (X tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) and Serbia (X tons) were the main destinations of soups exports from Croatia, together comprising 53% of total exports. These countries were followed by North Macedonia, Russia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, Germany and Liberia, which together accounted for a further 35%.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in supplies from abroad of soups and broths, when their volume increased by 3.4% to X tons. Overall, imports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 92%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soups imports totaled $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed moderate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. Serbia (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main suppliers of soups imports to Croatia, with a combined 71% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 24%.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 53% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
