Soups Market Size in Croatia

In 2021, shipments abroad of soups and broths decreased by -1.3% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -17.2% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, soups exports expanded notably to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Kosovo (X tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) and Serbia (X tons) were the main destinations of soups exports from Croatia, together comprising 53% of total exports. These countries were followed by North Macedonia, Russia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, Germany and Liberia, which together accounted for a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +13.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kosovo ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Serbia ($X) constituted the largest markets for soups exported from Croatia worldwide, together accounting for 51% of total exports.

Kosovo, with a CAGR of +14.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average soups export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 8.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 8.5%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Liberia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kosovo (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in supplies from abroad of soups and broths, when their volume increased by 3.4% to X tons. Overall, imports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 92%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soups imports totaled $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed moderate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Serbia (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main suppliers of soups imports to Croatia, with a combined 71% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovenia (with a CAGR of +85.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Serbia ($X), Hungary ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest soups suppliers to Croatia, with a combined 73% share of total imports. Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

Slovenia, with a CAGR of +68.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average soups import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 53% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
