In value terms, organic pigments exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Serbia (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) were the main destinations of organic pigments exports from Croatia, together comprising 80% of total exports. Poland, Hungary, France, Italy, Germany and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, organic pigments imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 26%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest organic pigments supplier to Croatia, accounting for a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, organic pigments imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Slovenia (X tons), threefold. Austria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy amounted to +8.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovenia (+41.0% per year) and Austria (+17.5% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments to Croatia, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Slovenia, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +6.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+6.4% per year) and Slovenia (+24.4% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 124%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
