In value terms, veneer sheets exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 54%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Italy (X cubic meters), Belgium (X cubic meters) and Spain (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of veneer sheets exports from Croatia, together comprising 49% of total exports. Germany, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Austria, Sweden, France, Lithuania, Romania and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +188.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average veneer sheets export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, rising by 27% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, veneer sheets export price increased by +48.1% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Croatia

For the third year in a row, Croatia recorded growth in purchases abroad of veneer sheets, which increased by 5.4% to X cubic meters in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, veneer sheets imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Sweden (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of veneer sheets to Croatia, with a 24% share of total imports. Moreover, veneer sheets imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X cubic meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Bosnia and Herzegovina (X cubic meters), with a 10% share.

In value terms, Belgium ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) constituted the largest veneer sheets suppliers to Croatia, together comprising 51% of total imports. Sweden, Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Slovenia, Serbia and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Finland, with a CAGR of +38.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average veneer sheets import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 18% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Serbia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
