For the third year in a row, the Cuban baryte market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -9.2% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption faced a sharp descent. In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of barytes to Cuba, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 5.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -32.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-52.6% per year) and Mexico (-46.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average baryte import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -8.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 85% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
