In 2021, overseas shipments of coffee (green) decreased by -4.9% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports showed a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 103% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, green coffee exports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) were the main destinations of green coffee exports from Cuba, together accounting for 51% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Switzerland (with a CAGR of +60.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for green coffee exported from Cuba were Japan ($X), Germany ($X) and Switzerland ($X), together comprising 56% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Switzerland, with a CAGR of +61.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average green coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -6.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Cuba
In 2021, approx. X tons of coffee (green) were imported into Cuba; which is down by -54.5% against the previous year. Overall, imports faced a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 348%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, green coffee imports declined significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 319%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of green coffee to Cuba, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, green coffee imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Nicaragua (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Spain (X tons), with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Brazil stood at -12.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Nicaragua (-2.4% per year) and Spain (+72.0% per year).
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constituted the largest supplier of green coffee to Cuba, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nicaragua ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Brazil stood at -15.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Nicaragua (+18.4% per year) and Spain (+67.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average green coffee import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 24%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Ecuador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nicaragua (+21.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
