Chile (X tons) was the main destination for disinfectant exports from Cuba, with a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, disinfectant exports to Chile exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Chile amounted to +3.8%.
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the key foreign market for disinfectant exports from Cuba, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

In 2021, the average disinfectant export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 63%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (-6.2%).

Imports into Cuba
In 2021, purchases abroad of disinfectants increased by 29% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, disinfectant imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Belgium (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of disinfectant imports to Cuba, together accounting for 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by Costa Rica, Spain, Portugal, Panama, Italy, Brazil and Chile, which together accounted for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Costa Rica (with a CAGR of +114.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($X), Mexico ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest disinfectant suppliers to Cuba, together comprising 58% of total imports. Spain, Costa Rica, Italy, Portugal, Panama, Brazil and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
Among the main suppliers, Costa Rica, with a CAGR of +91.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average disinfectant import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -3.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 22%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
