In terms of the main countries of destination, Chile, with a CAGR of 0.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Cuba
After two years of growth, purchases abroad of dried prunes decreased by -0.7% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +127.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 126%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined slightly in the following year.
In value terms, dried prune imports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia (X tons), China (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of dried prune imports to Cuba, together accounting for 19% of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Brazil, the UK, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Japan, Pakistan, Algeria and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 41%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Pakistan (with a CAGR of +63.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Brazil ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the largest dried prune suppliers to Cuba, with a combined 19% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, Italy, Poland, Mexico, the UK, Spain, China, Turkey, Algeria and Pakistan, which together accounted for a further 40%.
Among the main suppliers, Pakistan, with a CAGR of +51.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average dried prune import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
