Imports into Cuba
In 2021, overseas purchases of leather footwear decreased by -58.7% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a significant contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 71%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, leather footwear imports dropped markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports faced a precipitous contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Brazil (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of leather footwear imports to Cuba, together comprising 49% of total imports. Spain, Italy, Colombia, Panama and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Colombia (with a CAGR of +43.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest leather footwear suppliers to Cuba were Mexico ($X), China ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports. Brazil, Italy, Panama, Colombia and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per kg), while the price for Peru ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
