In 2021, overseas purchases of mixed nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) fertilizers decreased by -33% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 112%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, NPK fertilizer imports dropped markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 72%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Mexico (X tons), China (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of NPK fertilizer imports to Cuba, together comprising 97% of total imports.
