In 2021, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by China (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Japan (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Estonia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the key exporters of tantalum, together constituting 92% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Estonia (with a CAGR of +27.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest tantalum supplying countries from Cuba were the United States ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 62% share of total exports. Thailand, Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

Estonia, with a CAGR of +12.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The United States represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 44% of total imports. El Salvador (X tons) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (7.4%), Mexico (7%), Germany (5.2%), Israel (5.1%) and the Czech Republic (0.9%). Malaysia (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Australia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to tantalum imports into the United States stood at +5.9%. At the same time, El Salvador (+14.4%), Malaysia (+10.0%), Israel (+7.3%) and Germany (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, El Salvador emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +14.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Japan (-2.8%), Mexico (-6.3%), Indonesia (-11.7%), Australia (-18.4%) and the Czech Republic (-20.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United States (+18 p.p.), El Salvador (+9.3 p.p.), Malaysia (+2.5 p.p.) and Israel (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Australia, Mexico, the Czech Republic and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -2.7%, -5.6%, -5.9% and -15.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tantalum into Cuba, comprising 43% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 12% share of global imports. It was followed by El Salvador, with a 12% share.

In the United States, tantalum imports increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (-2.7% per year) and El Salvador (+13.4% per year).
