Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, vegetable exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Canada (X tons), Jamaica (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of vegetable exports from Cuba, together comprising 32% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +46.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest markets for vegetable exported from Cuba worldwide, together comprising 27% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, France, with a CAGR of +48.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Jamaica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+18.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Cuba
Vegetable imports into Cuba fell notably to X tons in 2022, declining by -31.4% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate modest growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 169%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, vegetable imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 180%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest vegetable supplier to Cuba, with a 22% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Canada (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Netherlands totaled -5.0%.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vegetables to Cuba, comprising 23% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with a 3.3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands totaled -4.8%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average vegetable import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 7%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Canada totaled $X per ton.
