The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, activated carbon exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Slovakia (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of activated carbon exports from the Czech Republic, with a combined 84% share of total exports. Belgium, Austria and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 10%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +101.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 89%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2022, imports of activated carbon into the Czech Republic expanded remarkably to X tons, growing by 6.3% on the previous year. In general, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -31.4% against 2018 indices. In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest activated carbon supplier to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 36% share of total imports. Moreover, activated carbon imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. Austria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.

Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, India and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

India, with a CAGR of +64.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average activated carbon import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, activated carbon import price increased by +68.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 42% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
