In 2021, shipments abroad of artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 261%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 170% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tons) was the main destination for artificial and colloidal graphite exports from the Czech Republic, with a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, artificial and colloidal graphite exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Poland totaled +24.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-8.9% per year) and the Netherlands (+22.1% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.7% share.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2021, overseas purchases of artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate modest growth. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), China (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of artificial and colloidal graphite imports to the Czech Republic, together accounting for 68% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Hungary, Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, Slovakia and France, which together accounted for a further 25%.

In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
