In 2021, the Czech preserved beef market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 1,889%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved beef exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2021, overseas purchases of beef and veal (salted, in brine, dried or smoked) decreased by -21.9% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved beef imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a notable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest preserved beef supplier to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved beef imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Lithuania (X tons), with a 4.1% share.

The average preserved beef import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 94% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a remarkable increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
