In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of benzol (benzene), toluol (toluene) and xylol (xylenes), when their volume increased by 466% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, benzol, toluol and xylol exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Poland (X tons) was the main destination for benzol, toluol and xylol exports from the Czech Republic, with a 58% share of total exports. Moreover, benzol, toluol and xylol exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland totaled -14.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-1.9% per year) and Slovakia (-5.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for benzol, toluol and xylol exported from the Czech Republic were Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Slovakia ($X), together accounting for 98% of total exports.

Germany, with a CAGR of +2.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, purchases abroad of benzol (benzene), toluol (toluene) and xylol (xylenes) increased by 2.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a sharp decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, benzol, toluol and xylol imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a dramatic decrease. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Slovakia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of benzol, toluol and xylol to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, benzol, toluol and xylol imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), threefold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Slovakia stood at -26.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+86.4% per year) and Germany (-28.0% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of benzol (benzene), toluol (toluene) and xylol (xylenes) to the Czech Republic, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Slovakia amounted to -25.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+94.5% per year) and Germany (-26.6% per year).

In 2021, the average benzol, toluol and xylol import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
