In 2021, the Czech calcium carbonate market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Slovakia (X tons) was the main destination for calcium carbonate exports from the Czech Republic, with a 58% share of total exports. Moreover, calcium carbonate exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), fivefold. Ukraine (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Slovakia stood at -13.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-30.6% per year) and Ukraine (+13.6% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for calcium carbonate exported from the Czech Republic were Slovakia ($X), Russia ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together comprising 63% of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Austria, Germany, Croatia and Poland, which together accounted for a further 26%.

Germany, with a CAGR of +54.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average calcium carbonate export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 156% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a remarkable increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2021, the amount of calcium carbonate imported into the Czech Republic dropped to X tons, waning by -11% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 44%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, calcium carbonate imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 29%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main suppliers of calcium carbonate imports to the Czech Republic, together comprising 84% of total imports. Croatia, Poland, Belgium and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
