Champagne Market Size in the Czech Republic

The Czech champagne market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, growing by 16% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, saw a tangible expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2021, approx. X tons of champagne were exported from the Czech Republic; increasing by 21% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 94% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, champagne exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X tons), Romania (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of champagne exports from the Czech Republic, together comprising 61% of total exports. Slovakia, the UK, Austria and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +123.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average champagne export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 28% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 257% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2021, purchases abroad of champagne decreased by -5.1% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, champagne imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -7.2% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, France (X tons) constituted the largest champagne supplier to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, champagne imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from France was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+4.1% per year) and Italy (+25.4% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of champagne to the Czech Republic, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 7.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from France totaled +5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+7.4% per year) and Italy (+17.8% per year).

In 2021, the average champagne import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, champagne import price increased by +132.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
