Exports from the Czech Republic
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of chocolate and cocoa products, when their volume increased by 6.7% to X tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, chocolate exports totaled $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Slovakia (X tons) was the main destination for chocolate exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 39% share of total exports. Moreover, chocolate exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Hungary (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovakia amounted to +1.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+1.0% per year) and Hungary (+1.0% per year).
In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for chocolate and cocoa products exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 9.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Slovakia stood at +3.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+6.7% per year) and Poland (+4.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average chocolate export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -6.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 11%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic
Chocolate imports into the Czech Republic expanded sharply to X tons in 2022, with an increase of 8.7% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, chocolate imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of chocolate imports to the Czech Republic, together comprising 53% of total imports. Slovakia, Austria, Italy, Hungary, France, the Netherlands and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +33.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chocolate and cocoa products to the Czech Republic, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 9.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany amounted to +4.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+3.9% per year) and Belgium (+1.7% per year).

In 2022, the average chocolate import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -6.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous year.
