Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 102%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X litres. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead exports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 131%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Slovakia (X litres), Poland (X litres) and Hungary (X litres) were the main destinations of cider, perry and mead exports from the Czech Republic, together accounting for 86% of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany and Romania, which together accounted for a further 11%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +130.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for cider, perry and mead exported from the Czech Republic were Slovakia ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X), together accounting for 80% of total exports. Germany and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +140.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2021, overseas purchases of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages decreased by -1.6% to X litres, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -10.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +73.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2021, Slovakia (X litres) constituted the largest cider, perry and mead supplier to the Czech Republic, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, cider, perry and mead imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X litres), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X litres), with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Slovakia totaled +41.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (-2.1% per year) and Germany (+12.8% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages to the Czech Republic, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Slovakia stood at +39.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (-0.0% per year) and Germany (+12.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average cider, perry and mead import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per litre), while the price for Hungary ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
