The Czech citric acid market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Based on 2021 figures, citric acid export price decreased by -11.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 52%. Imports into the Czech Republic

For the fourth year in a row, the Czech Republic recorded growth in overseas purchases of citric acid and its salts and esters, which increased by 7.7% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, citric acid imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Poland (X tons), Austria (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of citric acid imports to the Czech Republic, together comprising 69% of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +1,094.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
