In 2022, approx. X tons of cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones were exported from the Czech Republic; picking up by 6.9% compared with the previous year. In general, exports saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 126%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, precious stone and pearl exports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
France (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main destinations of precious stone and pearl exports from the Czech Republic, together accounting for 48% of total exports. Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Austria, Sweden, Italy, the UK, Belgium, Turkey and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +236.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 19% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 7.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Poland amounted to +15.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-16.6% per year) and Slovakia (-30.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average precious stone and pearl export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -59.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a sharp decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+29.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Czech Republic
In 2022, the amount of cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones imported into the Czech Republic was estimated at X tons, rising by 10% against 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 111% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, precious stone and pearl imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 57%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of precious stone and pearl to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, precious stone and pearl imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Uruguay (X tons), eightfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Brazil amounted to +4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uruguay (+82.3% per year) and China (+3.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest precious stone and pearl suppliers to the Czech Republic were Brazil ($X), China ($X) and Uruguay ($X), with a combined 9.2% share of total imports. South Africa and Madagascar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 0.4%.
South Africa, with a CAGR of +67.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average precious stone and pearl import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($X per ton), while the price for Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Madagascar (+25.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
