The Czech direct dye market shrank modestly to $X in 2021, which is down by -4.3% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. In 2021, overseas shipments of direct dyes and preparations based thereon were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 24,482%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, direct dye exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 26,544% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of direct dye exports from the Czech Republic, together accounting for 77% of total exports. The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, China, France and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +59.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for direct dye exported from the Czech Republic were Spain ($X), Italy ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 74% share of total exports. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of direct dyes and preparations based thereon decreased by -26.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. Overall, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, direct dye imports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 109%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of direct dye imports to the Czech Republic, with a combined 83% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +110.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Denmark ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest direct dye suppliers to the Czech Republic, with a combined 82% share of total imports. Overall, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, direct dye import price increased by +68.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 137% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+19.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
