For the third year in a row, the Czech Republic recorded growth in overseas shipments of fish fats and oils, which increased by 11% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 122% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, fish fat and oil exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 70%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons) was the main destination for fish fat and oil exports from the Czech Republic, with a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, fish fat and oil exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), sixfold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Poland amounted to +31.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+53.1% per year) and France (+30.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for fish fat and oil exported from the Czech Republic were Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Slovakia ($X), together accounting for 53% of total exports. France, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, Malaysia, Spain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.
Ukraine, with a CAGR of +90.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average fish fat and oil export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 72% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Fish Fats And Oils
Imports into the Czech Republic
After four years of growth, supplies from abroad of fish fats and oils decreased by -24.7% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.
In value terms, fish fat and oil imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 112% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of fish fat and oil imports to the Czech Republic, together comprising 83% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +49.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest fish fat and oil suppliers to the Czech Republic were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 83% share of total imports.
Poland, with a CAGR of +36.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average fish fat and oil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
