Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2022, overseas shipments of grapefruits decreased by -32.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, exports saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, grapefruit exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) were the main destinations of grapefruit exports from the Czech Republic, together comprising 92% of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 7.4%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +45.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for grapefruit exported from the Czech Republic were Slovakia ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined 88% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 12%.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2022, approx. X tons of grapefruits were imported into the Czech Republic; with a decrease of -18.1% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, grapefruit imports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of grapefruit imports to the Czech Republic, together accounting for 63% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Africa, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Israel, which together accounted for a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +37.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
