Honey Market Size in the Czech Republic

The Czech honey market contracted to $X in 2022, waning by -5.1% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, honey production dropped slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 24% against the previous year. Honey production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2022, the amount of honey exported from the Czech Republic expanded rapidly to X tons, surging by 12% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, honey exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Slovakia (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of honey exports from the Czech Republic, together comprising 93% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +39.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Slovakia ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest markets for honey exported from the Czech Republic worldwide, together comprising 89% of total exports.

France, with a CAGR of +38.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the Czech Republic

For the fourth consecutive year, the Czech Republic recorded growth in purchases abroad of honey, which increased by 3.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 70%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, honey imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports posted buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Ukraine (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) were the main suppliers of honey imports to the Czech Republic, together accounting for 74% of total imports. Germany, Cuba, Spain, Moldova, Uruguay, Romania and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cuba (with a CAGR of +4,446.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ukraine ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Argentina ($X) were the largest honey suppliers to the Czech Republic, with a combined 63% share of total imports. Germany, Spain, Cuba, Uruguay, Moldova, Romania and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Cuba, with a CAGR of +3,169.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average honey import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
