Lignite Market Size in the Czech Republic

The Czech lignite market stood at $X in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a slight downturn. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of lignites increased by 17% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lignite imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, Germany (X tons) was the main supplier of lignite to the Czech Republic, with a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by Slovakia (X tons), with a 1.8% share of total imports.
