Malt Market Size in the Czech Republic
The Czech malt market reduced dramatically to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -29.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a perceptible contraction. Malt consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Malt Production in the Czech Republic
In value terms, malt production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from the Czech Republic
In 2021, shipments abroad of malt (not roasted) was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild curtailment. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, malt exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons) was the main destination for malt exports from the Czech Republic, with a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, malt exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Austria (X tons), with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Poland was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+5.7% per year) and Austria (+34.3% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for malt (not roasted) exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Poland stood at -1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+3.4% per year) and Austria (+31.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average malt export price amounted to $X per ton, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 8.6%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Cuba ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per ton) and Romania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cuba (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Malt Imports
Imports into the Czech Republic
In 2021, supplies from abroad of malt (not roasted) decreased by -5.9% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +13.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 129% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, malt imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate pronounced growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 94%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Slovakia (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of malt imports to the Czech Republic.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +52.0%).
In value terms, Slovakia ($X) and Austria ($X) constituted the largest malt suppliers to the Czech Republic.
Austria, with a CAGR of +36.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
The average malt import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 13%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the price for Austria stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (-1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
