Soft Drink Market Size in the Czech Republic
In 2021, the Czech soft drink market increased by 15% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible decline. Soft drink consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, soft drink production expanded rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 57%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from the Czech Republic
For the fifth consecutive year, the Czech Republic recorded growth in shipments abroad of soft drinks, which increased by 11% to X litres in 2021. Overall, exports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, soft drink exports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +32.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Slovakia (X litres) was the main destination for soft drink exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, soft drink exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X litres), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (X litres), with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovakia stood at +12.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+26.7% per year) and Poland (-4.8% per year).
In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for soft drink exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 37% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with an 8.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Slovakia stood at +6.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+17.6% per year) and Poland (-2.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average soft drink export price stood at $X per litre in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 7.7%. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic
In 2021, soft drink imports into the Czech Republic skyrocketed to X litres, jumping by 36% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +31.5% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, soft drink imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of soft drink to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, soft drink imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Slovakia (X litres), threefold. Austria (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland amounted to +14.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovakia (-1.2% per year) and Austria (+2.0% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Austria ($X) constituted the largest soft drink suppliers to the Czech Republic, with a combined 61% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
Ukraine, with a CAGR of +59.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, shrinking by -13.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per litre), while the price for Slovakia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+21.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
