Piper Pepper Market Size in the Czech Republic

In 2022, the Czech piper pepper market increased by 14% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after five years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a mild descent. Piper pepper consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of piper pepper, when their volume decreased by -10.9% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 109%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, piper pepper exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed tangible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 129% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for piper pepper exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, piper pepper exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Norway (X tons), eightfold. Slovakia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled +15.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Norway (+1.9% per year) and Slovakia (+0.3% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for piper pepper exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Norway ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled +13.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Norway (-2.8% per year) and Slovakia (-1.4% per year).

In 2022, the average piper pepper export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 9.6%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2022, overseas purchases of piper pepper increased by 1% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, piper pepper imports rose slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Vietnam (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of piper pepper imports to the Czech Republic, together comprising 72% of total imports.
