Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2022, overseas shipments of plastic stoppers, caps and closures increased by 3.3% to X tons, rising for the seventh year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +92.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic closure exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +111.7% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 24%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic closure exports from the Czech Republic, together accounting for 44% of total exports. Poland, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Turkey, France, Spain and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +68.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for plastic stoppers, caps and closures exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 26% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Denmark ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany stood at +5.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+48.6% per year) and Poland (-2.2% per year).

The average plastic closure export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 21%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2022, supplies from abroad of plastic stoppers, caps and closures was finally on the rise to reach X tons after five years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 45%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic closure imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic closure imports to the Czech Republic, together accounting for 57% of total imports. Hungary, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy, the United States, Spain, China and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovenia (with a CAGR of +10.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled -1.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+4.3% per year) and Austria (+4.9% per year).

In 2022, the average plastic closure import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 38%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
