The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -39.7% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 61%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, potato starch exports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -32.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Italy (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of potato starch exports from the Czech Republic, together comprising 50% of total exports. These countries were followed by Serbia, Switzerland, Germany, Romania, Hungary, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria, Latvia and Austria, which together accounted for a further 38%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +48.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for potato starch exported from the Czech Republic were Italy ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 47% of total exports. In 2021, overseas purchases of potato starch decreased by -13.2% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, potato starch imports plummeted to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 30%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Based on 2021 figures, potato starch import price increased by +86.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 51% against the previous year.
