Exports from the Czech Republic
In 2021, shipments abroad of potato starch decreased by -8.8% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -39.7% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 61%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, potato starch exports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -32.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Italy (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of potato starch exports from the Czech Republic, together comprising 50% of total exports. These countries were followed by Serbia, Switzerland, Germany, Romania, Hungary, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria, Latvia and Austria, which together accounted for a further 38%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +48.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for potato starch exported from the Czech Republic were Italy ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 47% of total exports. These countries were followed by Switzerland, Serbia, Romania, the Netherlands, Hungary, Spain, Austria, Greece, Latvia and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 38%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Latvia, with a CAGR of +56.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average potato starch export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -2.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic
In 2021, overseas purchases of potato starch decreased by -13.2% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, potato starch imports plummeted to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 30%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Austria (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of potato starch imports to the Czech Republic, together accounting for 58% of total imports. These countries were followed by Denmark, Sweden, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Poland, which together accounted for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +43.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest potato starch suppliers to the Czech Republic were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Slovakia ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. Denmark, Austria, Sweden, Poland and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

The average potato starch import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, potato starch import price increased by +86.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
