Propene Market Size in the Czech Republic

The Czech propene market rose markedly to $X in 2021, picking up by 11% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2021, shipments abroad of propene (propylene) increased by 84% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 309% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, propene exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 425% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for propene exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland (X tons), with a 0.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany amounted to +10.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-49.5% per year) and Slovakia (-35.9% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for propene (propylene) exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 0.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +9.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-48.3% per year) and Slovakia (-31.1% per year).

The average propene export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 1.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Propene Imports

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2021, the amount of propene (propylene) imported into the Czech Republic contracted to X tons, declining by -11.7% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 186%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, propene imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 135% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main suppliers of propene imports to the Czech Republic, with a combined 90% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +251.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest propene suppliers to the Czech Republic were Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Slovakia ($X), with a combined 91% share of total imports.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +215.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average propene import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Poland ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
