In 2021, the Czech roasted coffee substitutes market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes, when their volume increased by 108% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Slovakia (X tons) was the main destination for roasted coffee substitutes exports from the Czech Republic, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, roasted coffee substitutes exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), more than tenfold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovakia amounted to +1.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-15.0% per year) and Germany (+1.9% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 2.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Slovakia amounted to +2.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+2.7% per year) and Canada (0.0% per year).

The average roasted coffee substitutes export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, roasted coffee substitutes export price increased by +110.6% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 50% against the previous year. Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2021, supplies from abroad of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes increased by 30% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Portugal (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of roasted coffee substitutes to the Czech Republic, with a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, roasted coffee substitutes imports from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), sevenfold. Slovakia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Portugal amounted to +49.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-6.3% per year) and Slovakia (+4.6% per year).

In value terms, Portugal ($X) constituted the largest supplier of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes to the Czech Republic, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 2.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Portugal totaled +50.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-4.0% per year) and Slovakia (+13.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average roasted coffee substitutes import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 10% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
