Sausage Market Size in the Czech Republic
In 2021, the Czech sausage market decreased by -0.5% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, consumption continues to indicate a noticeable setback. Exports from the Czech Republic
For the sixth consecutive year, the Czech Republic recorded decline in shipments abroad of sausages and similar products of meat, which decreased by -3.9% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 10% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sausage exports fell to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 8.2%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Slovakia (X tons) was the main destination for sausage exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, sausage exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), fourfold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovakia stood at -1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-2.2% per year) and Poland (-2.6% per year).
In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for sausages and similar products of meat exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Slovakia totaled -2.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-1.4% per year) and Poland (-2.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average sausage export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 8.7%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic
In 2021, supplies from abroad of sausages and similar products of meat decreased by -3.8% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -9.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sausage imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +53.1% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Poland (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main suppliers of sausage imports to the Czech Republic, together comprising 73% of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Spain, Austria and Italy, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +12.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Hungary ($X) were the largest sausage suppliers to the Czech Republic, with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, Italy, Slovakia and Austria, which together accounted for a further 34%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Italy, with a CAGR of +13.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average sausage import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 15% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
