Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2021, overseas shipments of screwdrivers were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -6.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, screwdriver exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for screwdriver exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, screwdriver exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Slovakia (X tons), more than tenfold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at +5.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+9.3% per year) and France (-3.0% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for screwdrivers exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 2.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +8.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+0.7% per year) and Austria (+11.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average screwdriver export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 17%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic

For the third year in a row, the Czech Republic recorded decline in supplies from abroad of screwdrivers, which decreased by -4.2% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 110% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, screwdriver imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 98%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of screwdriver to the Czech Republic, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, screwdriver imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Poland (X tons), with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at +10.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-3.4% per year) and Poland (+22.6% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of screwdrivers to the Czech Republic, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at +14.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+2.2% per year) and Poland (+34.2% per year).

In 2021, the average screwdriver import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
