Sorghum Market Size in the Czech Republic

The Czech sorghum market reduced to $X in 2022, falling by -14.1% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. Poland (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of sorghum exports from the Czech Republic, with a combined 83% share of total exports. Germany, Italy and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +94.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Slovakia ($X), Denmark ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for sorghum exported from the Czech Republic worldwide, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Italy, Germany and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

Italy, with a CAGR of +103.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sorghum export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 7.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 141%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+48.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2022, supplies from abroad of sorghum was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sorghum imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 93% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Slovakia (X tons) constituted the largest sorghum supplier to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, sorghum imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), sixfold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Slovakia totaled +50.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (-6.6% per year) and the United States (+2.0% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the largest sorghum suppliers to the Czech Republic, with a combined 72% share of total imports.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +68.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average sorghum import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -71.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 78%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
