Sugar Beet Market Size in the Czech Republic
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Czech sugar beet market, when its value decreased by -1.9% to $X. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Sugar beet consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sugar beet production expanded to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 93%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
The average yield of sugar beet in the Czech Republic reduced modestly to X tons per ha in 2022, declining by -4.5% compared with 2021. In general, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 17%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the average sugar beet yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, approx. X ha of sugar beet were harvested in the Czech Republic; standing approx. at the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the harvested area saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Exports from the Czech Republic
In 2022, approx. X tons of sugar beet were exported from the Czech Republic; jumping by 92% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 647%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, sugar beet exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 1,006%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Hungary (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main destinations of sugar beet exports from the Czech Republic, with a combined 82% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +10,472.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Hungary ($X), Slovenia ($X) and Austria ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for sugar beet exported from the Czech Republic worldwide, together accounting for 78% of total exports.

In 2022, the average sugar beet export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a modest expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 193% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($X per ton) and Slovakia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per ton) and Slovenia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+20.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Beet Imports
Imports into the Czech Republic
In 2022, purchases abroad of sugar beet increased by 4.8% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 56%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugar beet imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +119.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Slovakia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sugar beet to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, sugar beet imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Slovakia totaled +5.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+62.7% per year) and Poland (+38.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest sugar beet suppliers to the Czech Republic were Germany ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 97% share of total imports.
Germany, with a CAGR of +33.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sugar beet import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 6.6% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sugar beet import price increased by +99.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 81%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
