After three years of decline, the Czech passenger car tyre market increased by 67% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a mild reduction. In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of tyres for motor cars, when their volume increased by 18% to X units. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, passenger car tyre exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X units) was the main destination for passenger car tyre exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 22% share of total exports. Moreover, passenger car tyre exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X units), twofold. Slovakia (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+11.6% per year) and Slovakia (+3.0% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Slovakia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for passenger car tyre exported from the Czech Republic worldwide, with a combined 42% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Hungary and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 39%.

Among the main countries of destination, South Korea, with a CAGR of +48.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average passenger car tyre export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 3.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 6.8% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of tyres for motor cars, when their volume increased by 26% to X units. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X units), Poland (X units) and Hungary (X units) were the main suppliers of passenger car tyre imports to the Czech Republic, with a combined 53% share of total imports. The average passenger car tyre import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
