Triticale Market Size in the Czech Republic

The Czech triticale market rose markedly to $X in 2022, growing by 8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a mild reduction. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, triticale exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for triticale exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, triticale exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), fivefold. Austria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled -2.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-0.9% per year) and Austria (+2.1% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for triticale exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Austria ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany stood at -1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+1.1% per year) and Poland (-5.5% per year).

The average triticale export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 7.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 22% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2022, overseas purchases of triticale decreased by -6.2% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. In general, imports faced a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 280% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, triticale imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 150%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest triticale supplier to the Czech Republic, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, triticale imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Austria (X tons), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland amounted to +17.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-6.2% per year) and Austria (+14.4% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of triticale to the Czech Republic, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland totaled +14.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-7.1% per year) and Austria (+15.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average triticale import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -10.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 115%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+32.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
