Twine And Cordage Market Size in the Czech Republic
In 2022, the Czech twine and cordage market decreased by -17.4% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. In general, consumption, however, recorded a buoyant increase. Exports from the Czech Republic
In 2022, shipments abroad of twine, cordage, rope and cables decreased by -10.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 8.2% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, twine and cordage exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +54.3% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) was the main destination for twine and cordage exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 23% share of total exports. Moreover, twine and cordage exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tons), twofold. Norway (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany amounted to +2.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+6.2% per year) and Norway (+18.8% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for twine, cordage, rope and cables exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 21% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany stood at +6.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+5.7% per year) and Sweden (+7.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average twine and cordage export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, twine and cordage export price increased by +30.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 25%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the Czech Republic
In 2022, approx. X tons of twine, cordage, rope and cables were imported into the Czech Republic; reducing by -3.6% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, twine and cordage imports fell to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of twine and cordage imports to the Czech Republic, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Madagascar, Thailand, France, Bangladesh, Slovakia, Finland, Austria, Portugal, the United States and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +104.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), China ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the largest twine and cordage suppliers to the Czech Republic, together accounting for 54% of total imports. The United States, France, Thailand, Austria, Slovakia, Madagascar, Japan, Finland, Portugal and Bangladesh lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Finland, with a CAGR of +83.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average twine and cordage import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -8.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
