In 2021, the Czech glass fiber market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. Glass fiber consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

After six years of growth, overseas shipments of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers decreased by -0.1% to X tons in 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 9.1%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, glass fiber exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tons) was the main destination for glass fiber exports from the Czech Republic, with a 32% share of total exports. Moreover, glass fiber exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Austria (X tons), with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Poland totaled +8.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-9.9% per year) and Austria (+4.1% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Slovakia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for glass fiber exported from the Czech Republic worldwide, together accounting for 43% of total exports. Italy, Austria, Lithuania, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia and Serbia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +14.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average glass fiber export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a slight expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2021, supplies from abroad of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers decreased by -0.4% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 17%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, glass fiber imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main suppliers of glass fiber imports to the Czech Republic, with a combined 72% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Belarus, Slovakia, Austria, France, China and Italy, which together accounted for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +226.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the largest glass fiber suppliers to the Czech Republic, with a combined 61% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, France, Russia, Slovakia, China, Italy and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 22%.

The average glass fiber import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
