Wallpaper Market Size in the Czech Republic

The Czech wallpaper market reduced to $X in 2021, dropping by -9.8% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Wallpaper consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wallpaper production plummeted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 96% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2021, shipments abroad of wallpaper and wall coverings decreased by -11.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 583% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wallpaper exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 284%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Slovakia (X tons) was the main destination for wallpaper exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 38% share of total exports. Moreover, wallpaper exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovakia totaled +13.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+48.4% per year) and Germany (+12.7% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for wallpaper and wall coverings exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Slovakia totaled +36.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+39.8% per year) and Germany (+14.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average wallpaper export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 39% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 153% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+32.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2021, the amount of wallpaper and wall coverings imported into the Czech Republic totaled X tons, with an increase of 11% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wallpaper imports fell to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 42%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest wallpaper supplier to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, wallpaper imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to -4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+26.2% per year) and China (-12.4% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wallpaper and wall coverings to the Czech Republic, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to -4.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+23.6% per year) and Belgium (+20.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average wallpaper import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -15.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 50% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+26.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
