From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovakia totaled -8.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+19.8% per year) and Romania (+40.3% per year).
In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for watermelons exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Slovakia stood at -5.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+21.0% per year) and Romania (+31.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average watermelon export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 46%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic
Watermelon imports into the Czech Republic dropped rapidly to X tons in 2022, which is down by -17% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, watermelon imports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +14.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 25%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Greece (X tons) were the main suppliers of watermelon imports to the Czech Republic, together comprising 58% of total imports. Hungary, Albania, Turkey, Brazil, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Albania (with a CAGR of +21.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of watermelons to the Czech Republic, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Greece, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Spain totaled +10.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+2.8% per year) and Greece (+10.6% per year).

The average watermelon import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, watermelon import price increased by +90.7% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 28% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
