Waterproof Footwear Market Size in the Czech Republic
The Czech waterproof footwear market expanded sharply to $X in 2022, with an increase of 8.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Waterproof footwear consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, waterproof footwear production rose remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from the Czech Republic
In 2022, overseas shipments of waterproof footwear decreased by -10% to X pairs for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +13.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X pairs in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, waterproof footwear exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 107%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany (X pairs) was the main destination for waterproof footwear exports from the Czech Republic, with a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, waterproof footwear exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Slovakia (X pairs), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Austria (X pairs), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany stood at +6.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+5.3% per year) and Austria (+34.5% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for waterproof footwear exports from the Czech Republic, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany stood at +11.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+4.0% per year) and Austria (+34.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average waterproof footwear export price amounted to $X per pair, falling by -9.2% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 50%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per pair in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per pair), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Waterproof Footwear Imports
Imports into the Czech Republic
In 2022, supplies from abroad of waterproof footwear increased by 24% to X pairs, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +34.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 42%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, waterproof footwear imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +44.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
China (X pairs), Italy (X pairs) and Poland (X pairs) were the main suppliers of waterproof footwear imports to the Czech Republic, together accounting for 87% of total imports. Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.8%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bosnia and Herzegovina (with a CAGR of +17.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest waterproof footwear suppliers to the Czech Republic were China ($X), Italy ($X) and Poland ($X), together comprising 75% of total imports. Slovakia, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
Portugal, with a CAGR of +21.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average waterproof footwear import price amounted to $X per pair, with a decrease of -17.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per pair, and then declined sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per pair), while the price for Italy ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.
