In 2021, overseas shipments of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates decreased by -0.9% to X cubic meters, falling for the third consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -21.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, exports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +26.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Austria (X cubic meters), Germany (X cubic meters) and Italy (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of exports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates from the Czech Republic, with a combined 84% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Slovakia and Poland, which together accounted for a further 14%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +14.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates exported from the Czech Republic were Austria ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 86% of total exports. Slovakia and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
Among the main countries of destination, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +18.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, picking up by 22% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 22%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic
In 2021, overseas purchases of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates increased by 4% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 74%. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X cubic meters) constituted the largest wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates supplier to the Czech Republic, accounting for a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X cubic meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Poland (X cubic meters), with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at +37.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (-0.6% per year) and Poland (+20.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates suppliers to the Czech Republic were Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together comprising 67% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Poland, with a CAGR of +12.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average import price for wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates amounted to $X per cubic meter, increasing by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 29% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Austria (less than $X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
