In 2022, the Danish banana market decreased by -5.4% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Germany (X tons) was the main destination for banana exports from Denmark, with a 55% share of total exports. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at +65.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (-19.2% per year) and Faroe Islands (+27.0% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for bananas exports from Denmark, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Faroe Islands, with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +59.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (-19.9% per year) and Faroe Islands (+25.4% per year).

In 2022, the average banana export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Greenland ($X per ton) and Faroe Islands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) and Sweden ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Denmark
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of bananas decreased by less than 0.1% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, banana imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Sweden (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of banana imports to Denmark, with a combined 78% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +37.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest banana suppliers to Denmark were Sweden ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Costa Rica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
