Beef Market Size in Denmark
The Danish beef market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Beef Production in Denmark
In value terms, beef production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 12%. Beef production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.
In 2021, the average beef yield in Denmark reduced modestly to X kg per head, therefore, remained relatively stable against 2020 figures. In general, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the yield increased by 1.9%. The beef yield peaked at X kg per head in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
In 2021, number of animals slaughtered for beef production in Denmark was estimated at X heads, remaining constant against the previous year's figure. Overall, the number of producing animals, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of beef (cattle meat), when their volume increased by 10% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight downturn. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, beef exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a mild setback. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of beef exports from Denmark, with a combined 52% share of total exports. Finland, Spain, Greece, the Netherlands, Canada, Norway, Lithuania, Vietnam, Portugal and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Canada (with a CAGR of +137.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Sweden ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for beef exported from Denmark worldwide, together accounting for 50% of total exports. Spain, Greece, Finland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Canada, Norway, Vietnam, Lithuania and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
Canada, with a CAGR of +151.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average beef export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Denmark
In 2021, overseas purchases of beef (cattle meat) increased by 4.9% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, beef imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of beef imports to Denmark, with a combined 71% share of total imports. Italy, Ireland, Lithuania, Austria and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X) were the largest beef suppliers to Denmark, together accounting for 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by Ireland, Italy, Austria, Lithuania and the UK, which together accounted for a further 16%.
Lithuania, with a CAGR of +13.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average beef import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
