After two years of growth, overseas shipments of champagne decreased by -9.1% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 64%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, champagne exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 30%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Sweden (X tons), France (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) were the main destinations of champagne exports from Denmark, together comprising 46% of total exports. Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Finland, Estonia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +116.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. For the fifth year in a row, Denmark recorded growth in overseas purchases of champagne, which increased by 44% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, France (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of champagne to Denmark, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, champagne imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 3.4% share.
