The Danish market for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres surged to $X in 2022, with an increase of 160% against the previous year. After two years of growth, shipments abroad of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres decreased by -1.2% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 81%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), France (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Denmark, with a combined 48% share of total exports. The Netherlands, the UK, Sweden, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovenia (with a CAGR of +115.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres exports from Denmark, comprising 26% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to +18.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+6.2% per year) and Spain (+25.8% per year).

In 2022, the average export price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres amounted to $X per ton, falling by -12.1% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres increased by +48.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 45%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres into Denmark soared to X tons in 2022, picking up by 72% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 87%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, Sri Lanka (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre to Denmark, accounting for a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Sri Lanka exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), more than tenfold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Sri Lanka stood at +11.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-10.5% per year) and Germany (+17.9% per year).

In value terms, Sri Lanka ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Denmark, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sweden ($X), with a 4.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 3.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Sri Lanka totaled +14.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sweden (-9.1% per year) and Germany (+4.7% per year).

The average import price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 5.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 29%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
