The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Sweden (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Norway (X tons) were the main destinations of common pottery exports from Denmark, together comprising 59% of total exports. Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, the UK, France, Belgium, Austria, Iceland and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +44.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Sweden ($X) and Norway ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for common pottery exported from Denmark worldwide, with a combined 57% share of total exports. Switzerland, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Poland, Iceland, Austria, Belgium and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
Among the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +37.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average common pottery export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 46% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Common Pottery Imports
Imports into Denmark
After four years of growth, overseas purchases of common pottery decreased by -12.4% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 43%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, common pottery imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 60%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest common pottery supplier to Denmark, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, common pottery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X tons), fivefold. Sweden (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +9.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Portugal (+22.1% per year) and Sweden (+1.6% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of common pottery to Denmark, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Portugal ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 9.6% share.
